First of all, I wish to thank you for visiting this new blog created upon the updating of my website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/h6>\n
While hoping that this new version will please you, I take the opportunity to introduce myself again (for a complete description of my career path, please read my\u00a0 ‘Bio’<\/a>).<\/span><\/h6>\n
French of origin, I\u2019ve been living in Southeast Asia for about twenty years. Still, I remember perfectly my very first trip to Indonesia, in 1992, when I was 25 years old…<\/span><\/h6>\n
Extract from my travel diary:<\/span><\/h6>\n
June 18th. We are flying over gorgeous atolls, which reveal the proximity of Paradise. My eyes are stuck to the window. The intense blue of the ocean and these virgin islands make me dream: I call a flight attendant and beg her to give me a parachute so I can join this Heaven which seems closer than ever!<\/em><\/span><\/h6>\n
I remember, of course, all the women I came across during that first journey, beautiful and sensual at all ages. Really, I think I never got as much of a stiff neck as during this first journey… I remember those women villagers in Sulawesi, touching the hair on my arms and the tip of my nose, which seemed so strange to them. I remember Irma from Wamena, Baliem Valley in Western New Guinea, who introduced me to her parents, secretly hoping to marry me. I especially remember Daniela, a young Javanese from Yogyakarta for whom I fell in love at first sight.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Then, how about Mira, that young Sundanese from West Java who helped me pass through a very difficult phase during this first trip? That episode of my life should definitely be recounted in this blog, soon.<\/span><\/h6>\n
As you have probably understood already, all these interesting encounters with Indonesian women were the starting point of my photographic quest on the theme of sensuality. But to start with, I had to forget everything. It was a few years later that I could retrieve those sensations, those smells and the feminine looks that had settled deep inside my person. Therefore, in 2005, when I decided to tackle the delicate topic, it was really just letting the memories spring out, the events that had unconsciously affected me at the age of 25. It seemed absolutely natural for me to pay tribute to these women and express visually the reasons why I had decided to settle down in Paradise.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Thus, I decided to trust my sensations\u00a0and create a visual study on femininity while trying to understand why men are so attracted to these island beauties.<\/span><\/h6>\n
I don\u2019t know if I am a \u201csensualist\u201d but I do like the definition of this philosophy elaborated by Etienne Bonnot de Condillac in 1754 in his \u201cTreatise on Sensations<\/em>\u201d. He maintained that sensations are the beginning of all our knowledge. Strongly inspired by \u2018Empirism\u2019 (John Locke 1690 in \u201cEssay on Human Understanding\u201d), sensualism is the opposite of Cartesian rationalism. I like this opposition especially because in Southeast Asia, people tend to behave in a not very Cartesian manner, meaning in a conscious manner (I refer to: \u201cI think therefore I am\u201d).<\/span><\/h6>\n
Of course, nowadays certain Southeast Asians seem to be playing a \u201csex-appeal\u201d image, yet, I have photographed numerous models (from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand) who reflected beauty and sensuality in a totally innocent and natural manner.<\/span><\/h6>\n
\u201cTo think is to feel\u201d said another sensualist, Helvetius. I\u2019m not far from agreeing with this statement.<\/span><\/h6>\n
When Condillac exposes his theory of sensations and knowledge through his famous thought experiment on a statue invested successively with the five senses, he obviously generalizes his philosophy, which underlines the relations between sensations, ideas, judgment and language.<\/span><\/h6>\n
However, if we apply this theory strictly to our topic of interest here, sensuality, it brings us to look deep into ourselves. If sensations are impressions stimulated inside when a person meets another person then all the sensations are permitted, from the most naive to the most shameful because man is an animal, who thinks and therefore who feels.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Sensuality is a sensation that is perceived and interpreted differently depending on the culture and\/or education but I try to ask my models to explore it, then to control it.<\/span><\/h6>\n
To \u201ccontrol\u201d, in the case of a young model who\u2019s attempting to define her own femininity, even her own sexuality, during shooting, is surely a magic word because from there she can make use of it. I found myself in situations where I had to help some of my models to find their own sensuality simply because they were unaware of it. And I\u2019m a little proud to say that I have helped these young women feel better with their body, with their femininity. In fact, many confessed that they felt like a tomboy before posing nude for me.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Some people claim that glamour pictures serve as therapy and one of my colleagues, Patrick Wecksteen, has well understood this concept by creating Photo-Therapy\u2122<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> But for the Southeast Asian women that I had the chance to photograph, I believe that posing nude meant \u201ctaking care\u201d of themselves.<\/span><\/h6>\n
In fact, I remember I once happened to photograph a young inexperienced Indonesian model, who had accepted to pose for me as revenge towards her uncle. During the intense discussion prior to the test-shoot, she confessed that he raped her many times, so by posing nude, she wanted to use her charm to play with men\u2019s libido… She wanted to make them crazy in her own way.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Other models have posed nude to assert their femininity to the detriment of their religion, (often Islamic in Indonesia), which sometimes denies their sensuality and femininity. For them, it is a social even political act to demonstrate that they are women before being Muslim or wives…<\/span><\/h6>\n
Finally, I would conclude that the desire to seduce or explore one\u2019s own femininity\/sensuality is influenced by education rather than being determined by the genes. In a country like Indonesia, sensuality can be seen as a rebellion against social or family norms, a kind of self-affirmation.<\/span><\/h6>\n
A woman\u2019s seductiveness is nevertheless related to a certain search for sensuality and femininity but I think that this search isn\u2019t necessarily conscious for all wom<\/span>en. I prefer the natural beauty of Indonesians (who are often unaware of their sensuality because of thei<\/span>r religion or culture) rather than the overly sexy image of certain Thai women, for example.<\/span><\/h6>\n
To control her sensuality, control her senses (like self-control in general) helps my models to know themselves better \u2013 some would say \u201cto master oneself\u201d, in order to assert their condition as women in comparison to men.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Nowadays, many western media especially Anglo-Saxon ones tend to spread mixed or false signals on the feminine condition because they mix up sensuality and sexuality, even eroticism and pornography. Incidentally, it is rather strange (even unfortunate) to find out that the word \u201cpornography\u201d has different meanings depending on the country or the ethnic and religious background.<\/span><\/h6>\n
That is why, during every photo session, I brief my Muses about my own clear and limpid definition of sensuality. I also spend some time interviewing them on the topic and I will publish their answers and opinions regularly in this blog.<\/span><\/h6>\n
Finally, I wish to reaffirm how happy I feel that these women have trusted me enough to accept being photographed completely nude. The exploration of their sensuality, their femininity and their power of seduction remains their main motivation. This quest in search of the self is always difficult but I am sure it is necessary to face the adult world, the machos\u2019 world.<\/span><\/h6>\n
I thank dearly all those who accepted my help, through the prism of glamour photography, in becoming happy adult women.<\/span><\/h6>\n

Fran\u00e7ais, je vis en Asie du sud-est depuis une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es, et je me souviens parfaitement de mon tout premier voyage en Indon\u00e9sie, en 1992 (j\u2019avais 25 ans)\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n

“Jeudi 18 juin. Nous survolons de superbes atolls, qui nous r\u00e9v\u00e8lent la proximit\u00e9 du Paradis. Mes yeux restent coll\u00e9s au hublot. Ce bleu intense de l\u2019oc\u00e9an et ces \u00eeles encore vierges me font r\u00eaver: j\u2019appelle une h\u00f4tesse et la supplie de me donner un parachute, afin que je rejoigne cet Eden qui n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi proche!”<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Je me souviens \u00e9videmment de toutes ces femmes que j\u2019ai crois\u00e9es lors de ce premier p\u00e9riple, belles et sensuelles \u00e0 tous \u00e2ges. Je crois que je n\u2019ai jamais contract\u00e9 autant de torticolis que pendant ce premier s\u00e9jour. Je me rappelle ces villageoises, \u00e0 Sulawesi: elles caressaient les poils de mes bras et touchaient le bout de mon nez, qui leur paraissaient si \u00e9tranges. Je me souviens de la jeune Irma, \u00e0 Wamena (dans la vall\u00e9e de Baliem, en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e Occidentale), qui m\u2019a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 ses parents, dans l\u2019espoir secret d\u2019un mariage inter-ethnique. Je me souviens, surtout, de Daniela, une jeune Javanaise de Yogyakarta, pour qui j\u2019ai eu un absolu coup de foudre.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Et que dire de Mira, cette jeune Sundanaise de Java-Ouest, qui m\u2019a aid\u00e9 dans un moment tr\u00e8s difficile de ce premier voyage? C\u2019est un \u00e9pisode de ma vie qui m\u00e9rite assur\u00e9ment d\u2019\u00eatre d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 dans ce blog, prochainement.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Toutes ces Indon\u00e9siennes sont \u00e0 l\u2019origine, vous l\u2019avez compris, de mon d\u00e9sir d\u2019explorer plus avant le th\u00e8me de la sensualit\u00e9 dans mon travail photographique. Mais il a d\u2019abord fallu tout oublier pour retrouver, quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, ces sensations, ces odeurs, ces regards f\u00e9minins, qui s\u2019\u00e9taient profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9s dans mon \u00ab\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0\u00bb. Et, en d\u00e9cidant, d\u00e8s 2005, de m\u2019attaquer \u00e0 ce d\u00e9licat sujet, je n\u2019ai finalement fait que rejaillir tous ses souvenirs qui m\u2019avaient inconsciemment marqu\u00e9, quand j\u2019avais 25 ans. Cela me semblait naturel, je souhaitais rendre hommage \u00e0 ces femmes qui m\u2019avaient v\u00e9ritablement fait tourner la t\u00eate, et, d\u2019une certaine mani\u00e8re, exprimer, par l\u2019image, les pures raisons pour lesquelles j\u2019avais ensuite pris la d\u00e9cision de m\u2019installer au Paradis.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
J\u2019ai donc choisi de faire confiance \u00e0 mes \u00ab\u00a0sensations\u00a0\u00bb et d\u2019\u00e9tudier visuellement la f\u00e9minit\u00e9. D\u2019essayer de comprendre pourquoi le regard des hommes est tant attir\u00e9 par ces beaut\u00e9s des \u00eeles.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Je ne sais pas si je suis un \u00ab\u00a0sensualiste\u00a0\u00bb, mais j\u2019aime la d\u00e9finition de cette philosophie formul\u00e9e pour la premi\u00e8re fois par Etienne Bonnot de Condillac en 1754 dans son \u00ab\u00a0Trait\u00e9 des Sensations\u00a0\u00bb. Celui-ci affirmait en effet que les sensations sont \u00e0 l\u2019origine de toutes nos connaissances. Fortement inspir\u00e9 par l\u2019Empirisme (pr\u00f4n\u00e9 par John Locke en 1690 dans son essai \u00ab\u00a0Essay On Human Understanding\u00a0\u00bb), le sensualisme s\u2019oppose donc au rationalisme cart\u00e9sien et cette opposition me pla\u00eet d\u2019autant plus que l\u2019Asie du sud-est est une r\u00e9gion o\u00f9 l\u2019on ne se comporte en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral pas forc\u00e9ment d\u2019une mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s cart\u00e9sienne, donc consciente (je fais ici r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0je pense, donc je suis\u00a0\u00bb).<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Certes, certaines sud-est Asiatiques d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui semblent souvent savoir jouer de leur \u00ab\u00a0sex-appeal\u00a0\u00bb, mais j\u2019ai shoot\u00e9 de nombreuses autres mod\u00e8les (d\u2019Indon\u00e9sie, des Philippines, de Malaisie et m\u00eame de Tha\u00eflande) qui exprimaient une beaut\u00e9 naturelle si inconsciente qu\u2019elles respiraient une sensualit\u00e9 \u00e0 fleur-de-peau des plus troublantes.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
\u00ab\u00a0Penser, c\u2019est Sentir\u00a0\u00bb affirmait un autre sensualiste, Helv\u00e9tius. Je ne suis pas loin de partager cette r\u00e9flexion.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Alors, lorsque Condillac d\u00e9crit sa th\u00e9orie des sensations et de la connaissance \u00e0 travers la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre exp\u00e9rience de pens\u00e9e de la statue successivement dot\u00e9e des cinq sens, il g\u00e9n\u00e9ralise \u00e9videmment sa philosophie, qui met notamment en exergue les relations entre les sensations, les id\u00e9es, les jugements et le langage.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Mais, si on l\u2019applique uniquement au sujet qui nous r\u00e9unit ici – la sensualit\u00e9 donc, elle provoque un regard sur notre \u00ab\u00a0moi\u00a0\u00bb profond. Si les sensations sont d\u00e9finies comme des impressions qui s\u2019excitent en nous \u00e0 la rencontre d\u2019une autre personne, alors toutes les \u00ab\u00a0sensations\u00a0\u00bb sont permises, des plus na\u00efves aux plus inavouables, car l\u2019homme n\u2019est finalement qu\u2019un animal, qui pense et donc qui sent.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
La sensualit\u00e9 est une sensation, que chacun per\u00e7oit plus ou moins, que chacun interpr\u00e8te selon vraisemblablement sa culture et\/ou son \u00e9ducation, mais j\u2019essaie toujours de demander \u00e0 mes mod\u00e8les de l\u2019explorer, pour ensuite pouvoir tenter de la contr\u00f4ler.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
\u00ab\u00a0Contr\u00f4ler\u00a0\u00bb, dans le cas d\u2019une jeune mod\u00e8le qui tente de d\u00e9finir sa propre f\u00e9minit\u00e9, voire sa propre sexualit\u00e9, lors d\u2019un shoot, est assur\u00e9ment un ma\u00eetre-mot, car il permet ensuite de mieux jouer de cette sensualit\u00e9. Il m\u2019est arriv\u00e9 de devoir aider, d\u2019une mani\u00e8re ou d\u2019une autre, certaines de mes mod\u00e8les \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0trouver\u00a0\u00bb leur propre sensualit\u00e9, tout simplement parce qu\u2019elles n\u2019en avaient pas encore conscience, et c\u2019est peut-\u00eatre l\u2019une de mes fiert\u00e9s que d\u2019avoir permis \u00e0 ces jeunes femmes de se sentir mieux dans leur corps, mieux dans leur f\u00e9minit\u00e9 (beaucoup m\u2019ont d\u2019ailleurs avou\u00e9 qu\u2019elles se sentaient tr\u00e8s \u00ab\u00a0Tomb Boy\u00a0\u00bb avant de poser nue pour moi).<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Certains pourront donc penser que la photo de charme fait souvent office de th\u00e9rapie (et l\u2019un de mes confr\u00e8res, Patrick Wecksteen, l\u2019a bien compris en cr\u00e9ant le concept de Photo-Th\u00e9rapie<\/a><\/strong>, mais, dans le cas de ces femmes d\u2019Asie du sud-est que j\u2019ai eu la chance de photographier, je pense que poser nu signifie plus que \u00ab se soigner \u00bb.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Je me souviens en effet d’avoir “shoot\u00e9” une jeune mod\u00e8le indon\u00e9sienne, novice dans le m\u00e9tier, et qui avait accept\u00e9 de poser nue pour la premi\u00e8re fois pour moi, “par vengeance”\u2026 Au cours d’une discussion intense que nous avons eue pendant le pr\u00e9paration de cette s\u00e9ance (pr\u00e9paratifs qui incluent en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral un test-shoot), celle-ci m’a effectivement avou\u00e9 qu’elle avait \u00e9t\u00e9 viol\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs reprises par l’un de ses oncles, et qu’elle souhaitait alors, en posant nue, profiter de son charme pour se venger des hommes, en jouant notamment avec leur “libido”\u2026 Elle souhaitait les rendre “fous” \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
D’autres mod\u00e8les que j’ai shoot\u00e9es ont \u00e9galement pos\u00e9 nues pour affirmer leur f\u00e9minit\u00e9 au d\u00e9triment de leur religion (souvent musulmane en Indon\u00e9sie) qui d\u00e9nie parfois leur statut de femme, dans tout ce que ce terme contient de sensualit\u00e9 et de f\u00e9minit\u00e9. Il s’agissait alors pour elles d’un acte “social” voire politique, afin de d\u00e9montrer qu’elles sont femmes avant d’\u00eatre musulmanes ou \u00e9pouses\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Bref, j’ai effectivement tendance \u00e0 penser que le d\u00e9sir de s\u00e9duction ou d’exploration de sa propre f\u00e9minit\u00e9\/sensualit\u00e9 est influenc\u00e9 par un certain type d’\u00e9ducation, et non qu\u2019il est inscrit dans les g\u00e8nes. Dans un pays comme l’Indon\u00e9sie, la sensualit\u00e9 peut alors \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une r\u00e9bellion aux normes sociales ou familiales, si ce n’est comme une affirmation de soi.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
La s\u00e9duction f\u00e9minine est toutefois li\u00e9e \u00e0 une certaine recherche de sensualit\u00e9 et de f\u00e9minit\u00e9, mais je pense que cette qu\u00eate n\u2019est pas forc\u00e9ment consciente chez toutes les femmes. Je pr\u00e9f\u00e8re d\u2019une certaine mani\u00e8re la beaut\u00e9 naturelle des Indon\u00e9siennes (qui n’ont souvent pas conscience de leur sensualit\u00e9, en raison de leur religion ou de leur culture) \u00e0 celle – trop “sexy” \u2013 de certaines Tha\u00eflandaises, par exemple.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Contr\u00f4ler sa sensualit\u00e9, contr\u00f4ler ses sens (tout comme le contr\u00f4le de soi, plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement), permet donc \u00e0 mes mod\u00e8les de mieux se conna\u00eetre \u2013 certains diront \u00ab\u00a0de s\u2019approprier son soi\u00a0\u00bb, afin de mieux affirmer leur condition de femme (en comparaison \u00e0 la gent masculine).<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Les m\u00e9dias occidentaux d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui, et notamment les anglo-saxons, ont pourtant tendance diffuser des signaux confus ou inexacts de cette condition f\u00e9minine, car beaucoup confondent sensualit\u00e9 avec sexualit\u00e9, voire \u00e9rotisme et pornographie. Il est d\u2019ailleurs amusant (regrettable?) de constater que \u00ab\u00a0pornographie\u00a0\u00bb poss\u00e8de de nombreuses d\u00e9finitions selon les pays ou les appartenances ethniques et religieuses.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
C\u2019est la raison pour laquelle j\u2019essaie \u00e9galement, lors de chaque session photo, de formuler \u00e0 mes muses ma propre d\u00e9finition, claire et limpide, de la sensualit\u00e9. J\u2019ai \u00e9galement pris le loisir de les interviewer sur ces sujets, et je publierai r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement leurs r\u00e9ponses et avis dans ce blog.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Pour terminer, je souhaite r\u00e9affirmer mon bonheur d\u2019avoir la chance de photographier des femmes, qui ont suffisamment confiance en moi pour se d\u00e9nuder et se mettre totalement \u00e0 nu (dans le sens litt\u00e9ral du terme). L\u2019exploration de leur sensualit\u00e9, de leur f\u00e9minit\u00e9, et donc de leur pouvoir de s\u00e9duction, reste leur motivation premi\u00e8re. Cette qu\u00eate de soi, toujours difficile \u00e0 priori, est n\u00e9cessaire pour mieux affronter le monde des adultes, le monde des machos. J\u2019en suis intimement persuad\u00e9.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
Je ne peux donc que remercier tendrement toutes celles qui ont accept\u00e9 que je les aide, par le prisme de la photographie de charme, \u00e0 s\u2019\u00e9panouir en tant que femmes.<\/span><\/em><\/h6>\n
